Known for the luminosity in his paintings, Don Stone believes
it is not the subject that is important as much as it is the effect
of the light under which it is painted. Because of this belief,
the collector has the opportunity to enjoy Don's use of light
and color under a vast variety of visual interpretations.
Don currently lives both on Monhegan Island, Maine and Exeter,
New Hampshire. His study of art began at Gloucester Massachusetts
High School and continued at Vester George School of Art in Boston
where he later became an instructor. He later studied with Paul
Strisik, N.A., whom he credits with introducing him to the life
of a plein-air painter.
It was during his youth in Gloucester that he became deeply involved
with the fisher people and their livelihood. Now, as a mature
artist while on Monhegan Island, he has the opportunity to portray
this involvement to the fullest.
Don is a member of the most prestigious organizations in America
including the National Academy of Design as an Academician (NA),
the American Watercolor Society as a Dolphin Fellow, ASMA Fellow
and many others.
Winning more than 75 major awards, Don's work hangs in collections
worldwide including Dartmouth College, Marietta College, Museum
of Mobile, Canton Art Institute and many others.
