Donald Demers was born in Lunenburg,
Massachusetts. He began to develop an interest in marine art while
spending summers in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. He studied art first
at the Worcester Art Museum, and subsequently at Massachusetts
College of Art in Boston. His paintings have been featured in
many prestigious national publications, including Sail magazine,
Yankee and Down East. Other noted clients include American Airlines,
the National Park Service and Reader’s Digest. Mr. Demers’ work,
both in watercolors and oils, portrays a brilliant landscape,
often backlit, with dazzling light effects that has earned him
the designation of “American Luminist,” referring to the tradition
of the master landscape painters of the 19th century. Mr. Demers
has been honored by the Society of Illustrators in New York City,
and was selected to participate in an annual show at the Museum
of American Illustration. His work has also been awarded with
recognition by both the Boston and New Hampshire Advertising Clubs
in their annual competitions. Mr. Demers is an artist member of
the American Society of Marine Artists and resides with his wife
an daughter in Maine.
